Tame Impala - 2012

After Australian multi-instramentalist Kevin Parker formed the moniker Tame Impala and released his debut, Innerspeaker, he went under fire, with critics giving him backhanded compliments about his influenced, and how he basically ripped off all of the counterculture bands of the '60s and '70s. So Parker went back into the lab and recorded Lonerism, a brilliant album that separated from him from the rest of the rock world. He took those influences, modernized their sound, and then completely destroyed how a rock song is usually structured and sounded. The result? An electronic-tinged, hazy whirl of emotions that sometimes went chorus, giant interlude, chorus, or sometimes no hook at all that rearranges an entire sub genre in Parker's oddball, weirdo ways. Psychedelic music was always about fighting convention at the end of the day, and Lonerism is the best example of that in the last decade. Favorite songs: Mind Mischief, Feels Like We Only Go Backwards Least Favorite songs: Endors Toi, Apocolypse Dreams Most overrated song: Elephant Most underrated song: Sun's Coming Up
