Freddie Gibbs / Madlib - 2014

Freddie Gibbs and Madlib, otherwise known as MadGibbs, have teamed up again after release a very good EP in 2013, and Piñata, which spans 17 tracks, has drawn comparisons to another Madlib-produced album, instaclassic Madvillainy with MF DOOM. However, Piñata isn't close to the level of quality of Madvillainy, and to be fair, not much is. Its much too inconsistent to be taken too seriously, and with songs like Robes, which wastes the resources of Domo Genesis and Earl Sweatshirt with a lazy beat and the last two minutes having Gibbs talking, it's hard to take it seriously at all. That being said, there isn't a lot of middle-quality music on here. You're either getting the complete best (the vibrant High, the grimy Shitsville), or the absolute worst (the closing track, which clocks in at 8:34 but could've easily been 5 minutes). Much like Freddie Gibbs himself, who's famously gotten five 8.0+ ratings on Pitchfork but never the coveted Best New Music mantra on a project. Piñata is good, but holds itself back from becoming great. Favorite Songs: Bomb, Shitsville Least Favorite Songs: Watts, Robes Most overrated song: Piñata Most underrated song: High

I checked out a few tracks and I like it. I'm definitely going to give it a full shot.

I liked some of it. I think this suffers from being too long. It's too much to digest.I have that problem with a lot of albums though, so maybe it's me.
