Screaming Females - 2015

I liked this album. Definitely not a contender for AOTY, but a decent album. I hadn't heard about this band before, and I honestly didn't know what to expect going in, just that a friend had said it was Garage Rock. If this is what Garage Rock sounds like, then I could listen to more.

Recently I've found myself listening to a lot of female vocals, due to the Sleater-Kinney album and Courtney Barnett. So, assuming this album lived up to their name, I was wondering how they will sound different. I can certainly say that I like them. The vocals are simplistic enough, but it's the attitude that makes it for me. I also loved all the catchy riffs. "Empty Head" being an example, and one of my favorites. The first song can make or break it for me sometimes, and so it was a pleasant start. "Ripe" is also pretty fucking badass. Can't say I was a fan of the slower songs as much, although "Hopeless" was a standout. Mainly because it was short, and the vocals were full of emotion. Loved that one. The vocals sounded a lot like Nico Vega, and I'm quite a fan of that band. I do believe that with more listens, my rating will go up. I've only really gave it one go, and its pretty much average. I don't hate it, but it didn't blow me away.

1. "Empty Head" 3.5
2. "Ripe" 3.5
3. "Wishing Well" 2.5
4. "Burning Car" 3.0
5. "Broken Neck" 3.0
6. "Rose Mountain" 2.0
7. "Hopeless" 3.5
8. "Triumph" 3.0
9. "It's Not Fair" 3.0
10. "Criminal Image" 3.0

Overall Rating: 3.00

Good stuff. You can hear the Sleater Kinney influence in there.
