Sufjan Stevens - 2015

Sufjan strips down to an intimate sound on this album about his mother’s death. The sound is a welcome change for Stevens, who can be a bit heavy handed production-wise on his albums. It also gives you the feeling that his whispered tone is inviting you to get closer to the speakers to hear what he needs to say.
As far as albums about dead mothers go I’d still rather listen to Lost In The Trees’ brilliant, “A Church That Fits Our Needs”, but Stevens has put together a nice collection of songs here that are delivered with a delicacy and intimacy that fits him well.
