Miley Cyrus - 2017
Perhaps the greatest surprise of 2017, Cyrus's album removes her from the world of pop that she had entrenched herself in since she was a Disney gal, as she pays ode to her country roots via this musical metamorphosis. There's enough pop still in her sound that to say it's an absolute crossover to the country genre is to be hyperbolic, but there is more twang than thang in this effort. Cyrus allows her voice to be the ostentatious element on this album, rather than her trademark ridiculous lyrics from albums past, and for the first time, she has put together an entire album's worth of evidence to support the idea that she is not just a pretty face with a tongue that hates to live inside her mouth, but instead, is an artist with something to say and a person with feelings that we can all relate to.
